Skye Weavers

We are a small weaving and sewing business based on the Hebridean Isle of Skye.

On our bicycle pedal-powered looms we weave a variety of woollen products including tweed, scarves, blankets, throws and wraps. An increasing part of our range is made up of products woven from local Isle of Skye wool. For these products we hand select fleeces from local farmers and crofters and have them turned into a special yarn that is unique to us. It gives us great satisfaction to use this natural and local resource and to know exactly where our wool comes from.

Mountaincroft Living Fleece

Handcrafted, hand felted, living fleece rugs. A living fleece rug or sometimes known as a vegetarian fleece rug, is a fleece which is carefully shorn off a sheep, cleaned and then backed with lots of fluffy wool which is felted together to hold it in place.

Mountain Croft Living Fleece is based in the glorious Pendle Hill Countryside in a remote part of Lancashire. Here, two friends, Claire and Charlotte, along with their families, have neighbouring farms, where they create something beautiful out of local wool.

We are a small farm in the heart of West Wales, we keep a fibre flock of rare and heritage breeds of sheep who grow the most amazing wool.

We produce woolen rugs and cushions, decorations for the home, and crafting wool in bats, roving, yarn and locks. All the wool is hand processed using traditional skills right on the farm.

Laura’s Loom

I source fleece from almost two dozen farms within a 30 mile radius of my home in the Yorkshire Dales. I sort the wool in my garden, sample designs on my handlooms, then ‘shepherd’ my wool through a series of mills based in West Yorkshire and the Scottish borders where it is scoured, spun, dyed, woven and finished, eventually returning to me as 100% British Wool blankets and scarves. Right from the start I have tried to maintain a tight ‘fibreshed’ and a sustainable ethos. I am proud to be playing a part in keeping our once famous woollen industry alive and relevant for future generations.

Ali Sharman Hand Weaver

Ali designs and weaves tweed by hand as well as commissioning short runs
of cloth, seeking to work sustainably by using resources from the
region. Her Howgill Cloth range is inspired by the fells that overlook
her workshop and uses traceable wool sourced from local flocks. The
processes of scouring, spinning, dyeing, weaving and finishing all take
place within a 70 mile radius of her base in the Yorkshire Dales. Ali’s
cloth is designed for clothing, light furnishings and other sewing
projects. You can also purchase her Howgill weaving yarn.

Katrin Eagle -Wool Artist and Designer

Katrin uses dyed wool fibres to create needle felted pictures inspired by her paintings and drawings. Annis‘s Hand Felted Creations began with myself, Annis, but gradually became a small family business, as I called on the assistance of my mum and husband as I became more busy.

We create kits, needle felted sculptures, doorstops and cushions. Also, wool felting pads, which became popular after they were used in my workshops, which are run in Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
